Chester & North Wales Society News

By Chartered One

The Annual Dinner was held on Friday 6 March at the Chester Grosvenor Hotel and was attended by approximately 230 people, putting the room at near capacity. There was a strong contingent from the Student Society (35) who benefit from subsidised tickets. Guest speakers were Andrew Ratcliffe (ICAEW Deputy President) and Don Maclean of ‘Crackerjack’ fame. Sponsorship was kindly provided by Brewin Dolphin.

officers of the Society were elected as follows:

  • Chairman : Colin Fowler (Morris & Co)
  • Vice Chairman : Zoe Devenport (Henry R Davis & Co Ltd)
  • Secretary : Tim Mitchell (McLintocks) – continuing in post
  • reasurer : Julie Whalley – continuing in post

I am delighted that we have in place both a Chairman and a Vice Chairman to ensure continuity.

The AGM approved the accounts for the year to 31 December 2014. These show a small deficit for the year which is largely a result of not having a dinner sponsor in March 2014. The successful sponsorship of the March 2015 dinner, together with the continued popularity of Marion’s tax courses, should mean that the Society will return to a surplus in the 2015 accounts.

Marion’s Spring tax course was held at the Holiday Inn Northop immediately before the AGM on Tuesday 12 May. Approximately 50 people attended.
